Phenom 2 940
Date: February 28, 2009
Pros: Fast, Good Value, High Quality, Many Features, Easy to Overclock, Energy Efficient Cons: it doesn't make me coffee in the morning
Product Use
I use it for Gaming benchmarking and for video and photo editing and everyday computer tasks.
"I recently picked up and PH2 940 and man what an excellent processor. Tasks on the computer take far less time as well as game performance and overall system perfomance has increased.
I paid less than 300 for it and I would have paid more.
A very great buy indeed"

Good Performance to price ratio
Date: February 24, 2009
Pros: Fast, Good Value, Many Features, Easy to Overclock Cons: Runs Hot, needs aftermaket cooler to put my mind at ease
Product Use
Movie editing , Movies , Lots of Gaming.
"I recently purchased a ATI 4850 1gb , And Despite the initial Fan speed problem which the new drivers have sorted out ,I am very impressed with its performance even though i am still running a single core processor (which holds back the graphics card a lot). However it does run extremely hot(hitting 80c+ under load in some games) and to put my mind at rest a aftermarket cooler or a card that has a rear exhaust is a must."

4870 512MB
Date: February 21, 2009
Pros: Fast, Good Value Cons: Part Failure, Runs Hot, envergy inefficient, noisy fan.
Product Use
I play crysis. Can't wait for diablo 3 ...
"Unofrtunately I bought a sapphire 4870 512MB which stopped working, when I plugged it into 400W PSU. I got a new one now and it works fine and a new 520W PSU. However I can't use warranty because I bought used one which was previously disassembled.
I must say this card consumes too much energy. More than our fridge. So typical for americans. or canadians. Can you ppl make a very fast card that doesn't consume more than 80W of energy at full load? Besides this card is way too big since it's overheating. Big cooler also makes it more expensive.
to sum it up, it's qute good speed/cost ratio. a lot better than nvidia (however only this product)."

Pros: Fast, Good Value, Easy to Overclock Cons: Runs Hot, driver anomalies
Product Use
My 4870 is the latest card in my home system. Fourth Generation of my own builds, she's where my inner engineer met my inner child.
"I've owned this card now for a while and overall I've very pleased at its raw horsepower performance. All the big titles as they came out; Fallout 3, Burnout Paradise, Call of Duty 5, and Left for Dead have played at maximum settings.
The only drawbacks I can see are strange quirks with particular settings or games. For example, multiple monitors work great as long as you do not frequently turn one off via C.C.C. Which hurts some game performance for us multiple monitor guys. Using a third-party application such as Ultra-Mon is a work around, but costs money.
Also noted another multiple monitor issue with Burnout Paradise, hopefully there is a hotfix or patch of some sort as it appears to be a driver issue (does not display anything on secondary).
I experienced had graphical issues with Mirror's Edge and was unfortunately unplayable due to the resolution issue. Disappointed, yet somehow I can't be surprised that an Nvidia super-optimized game doesn't run correctly on the competition. I digress.
In the time I've owned this card, I've been thoroughly impressed with its performance again and again, eagerly awaiting LAN parties at my workplace. They just can't come fast enough."

Extreme gaming.
"My HD4830 Is truely the best card I've ever owned. EXTREME overclockability I've pushed it from 585 (pre-overclocked) to 700 core/shader clock with barely any Heat rise. It beats Nvidia's cards any day!"

Need better drivers
Date: February 6, 2009
Pros: Fast, High Quality Cons: Difficult to use, no crossfire support with newer drivers.
Product Use
I use it mostly for gaming, or as the case with one of my cards, not at all since there isn't a crossfire option with the newer drivers. This is a real problem with a lot of people, hope you find a solution for this soon.
"This is a very good card, great performance. The only gripe I have is that the last three sets of drivers for this card do not allow you to place your cards in crossfire mode. Seing as I have two my options are to use 8.10 drivers which are about 30% slower than the new drivers, or use the new drivers but not be able to utilize crossfire mode. Really a lose lose situation for me. My advice is if your going to buy this card just buy one for now."

Date: January 23, 2009
Pros: Fast, Good Value, High Quality, Many Features, Easy to Overclock, Energy Efficient Cons: not enoght money to buy 4 and run it on quad cross
Product Use
for playing game like COD4, Crysis, Battlefield 2142, 2, 1942, FEAR and others.
keep it comming AMD/ATI!!!
"I cannot pass the opportunity to review a such great product; AMD/ATI have a Winning product with the newwest release on their HD' series, the 48xx series specially the 4850 have the power to crush the NVIDIA competition, on both areas PRICE and Performance.
PRICE: you cannot get a better performing product from NVIDIA, the 4850 series have all the features of his bigger sibling the 4870, just a tad lower speed, also coupled with GDDR3 vs GDDR5 on the 4870, but I can tell you if you use 2 on a CROSSFIREX mode the performance will top the GeForce GTX280 and the price is almost half, the 3DMARKS also speak for it, the Nvidia GTX280 gets about 13500+/- and the 4850 in Crossfirex 15300+/- on a simillar clocked processor (3.0Ghz)"

Best ATI card ever!

My card
Pros: Fast, High Quality, Many Features, lot of video quality features, excellent performance with anti aliasing Cons: some driver issues with certain games., superscalar design is too dependent of the driver., high power consumption when idle
Product Use
For video transcoding, graphic demos, games, video playback.
"Best ATi card ever. Since I bought it I've been in love with it's performance. I can play Crysis with very high settings, 4x FSAA at 1280x1024. Has a lot of video features like tone fleshing, sharpening, etc. I don't like the fact that because of it's design, it relies heavy in driver optimizations to maximize it's performance which means that when this card gets old, probably it won't shine like it's doing now, something that won't happen in other cards like the X1950 series. Also it consumes a lot of power when idle, it should go down to 300Mhz instead of 500MHz in core, and the RAM should throttle, something that doesn't do generating unnecesary heat dissipation and power consumption. Overall this is the card to get, with it's great performance and features that won't break your back unlike other companies."

Pros: Fast, Good Value, High Quality, Many Features, Easy to Overclock
Product Use
i use it for gaming, downloading, watching movies etc
"Nothing to Complain about. This series is amazing i personal have the ATI Radeon 4870 it is so fast and worth every penny. dont just buy a smaller and cheaper one because its going to wear out faster just buy an more expensive one and have it last a lot longer and kill every game thrown in its path. I was going to get the ATI Radeon 4870x2 but i just didnt have the money but when i built my next PC i will stick with ATI /Amd but if you want the x2 one you better look for a better cooling fan if your going to over clock it . i havent over clocked it yet because i dont need to its already really fast"
