Great Bang for the Buck
Date: December 19, 2008
Pros: Fast, Good Value, High Quality, Energy Efficient Cons: too large for smaller cases.
Product Use
Combined with my AMD dual-core CPU, I have a system that has great performance and reliability without spending too much money.
"After having built computer systems over the years and using many different varieties of video adapters, I was most pleased with the features, performance, and price of the 3870 card. It runs all games at excellent frame rates as well as rendering a high quality image for the HDMI output. Although not ATI's best performer, its abilities surpass today's current needs for a reasonable price."

Product Use
I use it to watch bluray's and play modern games on my computer
"Excellent card, cheaper then the 4870, and performs great, meets and exceeds my expectations. Capable of doing everything i need to do with ease. It runs quite cool, many of the reviews i read before purchasing said it overheated, but it turned out to be the opposite. I'm not much of an overclocker, but i would have no worrys about temperature if i was too."

Pros: Fast, Good Value, High Quality, Many Features, Easy to Overclock
Product Use
Combined with the MSI K9A2 Platinum Spider Platform and an AMD Athlon X2 6400 Black Edition.
"I have the Shapphire Radeon HD 3870 installed on a MSI K9A2 Platinum Board (Spider Platform). Running 4 GB of 1066mhz RAM and an Athlon X2 6400 Black Edition Processor. I use it primarily for games and watching HD Movies. It is by far the best Graphics card I have ever owned and I have owned a lot. I use a 26 inch HD monitor runnning it at 1920X1200 pixels (2MS) and the graphics are absolutely fabulous (No ghosting), the games blaze thru flawlessly and I have never had a single problem to date (owned and operated for 6 months now). When money permits, I would love to crossfire hookup 4 of these HD 3870's and a quad core processor on my mother board. ATI and AMD, the best of the best."

Pros: Good Value Cons: Part Failure
Product Use
I use it for my home computer. some gaming , some web surfing. a little of everything
"Usually Radeon is the best out there hands down but this card hangs on almost everything, crashes just sitting on desktop. I have installed it on 2 separate motherboards [MSI k9a2 cf-f, and MSI DKA790GX Platinum Motherboard ] Athlon 6000 x2, 4gb Kingston pc6400, 575w ps] I have also tried using different operating systems. Xp, Xp64, vista 64, got the same results with all 3 operating systems on both motherboards. i have to turn the graphics down to almost a minimum on most games to even attempt to play them. Could be my card, but I have read a lot of other people having similar issues. had to swap back to my old 8600 gt =["

"My first ATI card after Radeon Fury. Since than I was using NV cards, but HD38760 was quite impresive. Good price, excelent performance and most important good drivers (remeber the old days?). I can say that drivers today are more stabile and well done writen. Keep a good work."

the real bang 4 the bucks
Date: November 21, 2008
Pros: Good Value, High Quality, Many Features, Easy to Overclock, good looking cards..unlike a black brick design, very nice graphic quality, affordable Cons: short life span, bad reviews
"I bought this card (HIS radeon 3870 IceQ turbo) last May and i was surprisingly satisfied by it's performance, it plays many game along with my athlon X2 4000+ (yes, it was 4000..) at high details in 1024x768, and 1280x1024 at medium/high setting very smoothly.. now that i'm switching to 9950 phenom and 790fx board i was thinking to put another 3870 in it...
i never mind about the 10-15 fps differences...our eyes can't see the difference anyway, just mind the dollars we spent...it's truely visible.."

I have a game room with several computers built for LAN party gaming.
"I own/have purchased a 1GB 3870x2 with DDR4 (Powercolor) and 512MB 3870 DDR4 and both cards perform very well. The price is much higher for the X2, but I guess there is a reason for that. The inclusion of DDR4 memory on an X2 puts this card at the top of its generation performance wise. It makes it very comparable to a single 4870 if not slightly better. The price of the single GPU 3870 makes it a better value for those who don't need to say "I have the best card on the market"."

Great Video Card (at the time)
Date: November 19, 2008
Pros: Fast, Good Value, High Quality, Many Features, performance holding up Cons: dropped in price quickly
Product Use
It's the foundation to my gaming rig. I've used soley ATI cards for my gaming for years now and I plan to continue that trend.
"I bought this video card last Spring and it was totally amazing. It allowed me to max out the settings on all games (save for Crysis) and still allows even newer games to run on High-Ultra settings with playable performance. My next card is going to be either a 4850 or 4870."

Pros: Fast, Good Value, High Quality

To play games at the highest possible settings.
"I bought this card to go with my AMD Athlon X2 4800 and 2Gbs of RAM.
I am able to play every game I have wanted to at very decent settings without any issues at all.
The card installs without problems and the drivers remain solid.
Gameplay example: Crysis played at 1440x900 on Medium Specs with Frame rates of 80-90 fps.
All other games I have played on this system are at MAX settings."

Good not Great
Date: November 19, 2008
Pros: Fast, Good Value, High Quality, Easy to Overclock Cons: Difficult to use, driver meltdown, cooling is questionable
Product Use
Gaming extensively (30+ hrs a week) and watching ALOT of HD movies.
"This is obviously a mixed review... This series of graphics card is outstanding value for the money... Great performance, nice features, outstanding image quality for the price... But what a price... Im not talking about money here Im talking about the amount of time you can spend getting Crossfire working with two of these. Its truly a pain. I highly suggest you research your mainboard EXTENSIVELY prior to purchase. Make sure you know how to enable PCIE2.0. Make sure that you use the latest ATI drivers... NOT the ones it comes with. Make sure your mainboard South and Northbridge drivers are up to date. And last but not least READ THE MANUALS for your mainboard and graphic card. If you can handle doing all that on your own than bully for you... Otherwise if you want performance and price isnt really a big deal for you move up to a 4800 series card not in Crossfire. Youll get almost on par performance and a much simpler install process."

I am an Intel ATi person. I love ATi cards because of their price/performance ratio as Ati gives me good prices for really good graphics overall. The driver updates for their cards continue for a long time after manufacturing, which is the opposite for the competitor nvidia, and that goes a long way in my book.
"The 3870 is a good time in it's time, but because of the newer 4850, it is out shined. The good thing about the 3870 has over the 4850, is the dual slot design which blows the hot ir out of your case."

It was OKAY.
Date: November 19, 2008
Pros: Many Features, Easy to Overclock, Energy Efficient, it looks awesome. possibly the nicest looking card Cons: Not Fast Enough, Part Failure, 3 cards failed but that was msi's fault., anti aliasing kills this card.
Product Use
Gaming, Benchmarking, Browsing the net.
"I liked the 3870. It was decent. Ran games well but not super good. The 3870 really got bad when I would enable Anti Aliasing. FPS would drop and I would slide show in games.
Also it didn't help I had to RMA my card 3 times. But that was in no way AMD or ATI's fault. It was MSI's fault. I don't suggest them to ANYBODY. I sold it and went with a visiontek card and never had 1 issue.
This card is decent. Its not the best but its ok. I would say get the HD4850 over this. It will out perform it in every way possible. For the same price."

Date: October 31, 2008
