"I went thru all the line of amd processors until i found the x4 phenom quadcore black edition. And it has been a delight to work with.
Very stable, fast (2.5 per core), and with open overclocking capability is a must for any serious designer, specially in the area of 3d renderign and animation. As a comparison, what took me 15 minutes with a x2 processor takes 3 minutes with the x4. So if you want to improve your rendering times and handling capability of million of polygons without a glitch then this should be your next buy."

I use it mostly to develop software with Eclipse IDE and Flex 3 Builder. Also for playing shooters and strategy games. I would say that an effort is required to make AOD overdrive powerful tool as automatic power profile swapping and better integration with ATI catalyst. It would be great a tool that can configure everything from it if you have ATI + AMD hardware instead of having to use Fusion, AOD, Catalyst...
"I'm really happy with my Phenom 9550 processor. I use it for software development and gaming. Combined with an ATI4850 it provides me the power I need to play the lastest games at 1680x1050 all details high. Also is rock solid to develop software using Eclipse IDE along with other tools such as Flash IDE, Flex 3 Builder, Tomcat, etc."

"Inside the world of the processors this it is of half range, seeing Intel that has the leadership and new copied technologies of AMD. AMD to compete would have to make the same thing that Intel to copy its technologies and to acquire of new as for example Phenom X4 II memory controler Quad Channel, Instructions super advanced 3D NOW Future, etc.... The only technology that doesn't have INTEL for the time being is the processors of under consumption of 45Watts. To balance the scale in the 2009 the best thing for AMD that would recover serious market Phenom X6 6 cores but Quad channel DDR3 memory. That the future to compete with INTEL!!"

"It was nice to see these processors become more affordable. I have 3 Intel quadcores in the house and 3 AMD quadcores as well. Anything faster than a 9950 phenom is probably a waste of money. I have 2 9600 phenoms also. I have a Q6400 (engineering test model) and a Q6600 and my brother has a Q6600. If you have any quad core cpu it is unlikely that there is anything you can't do fast. Do yourself a favor and buy a 9600 phenom the value is excellent for casual users and gamers alike."
