It's used for gaming, basic things like e-mail and office and even media stuff like video viewing and encoding/decoding.
"I bought this CPU as a cheaper alternative for my parents 780G platform I was building them about a year ago. You get a dual-core price, with a triple-core performance. That extra core, along with a pretty quick memory controller, along with the platform as a whole perform excellent. It runs cool, overclocks well on stock voltages and easily spererates itself from the common dual-core, especially in games and encoding/decoding. For the extra few dollars, definitely get this over a dual-core. With GPGPU and physics on the rise in games and applications, you'll be thankfull later on!"

"When we think of computers old guys like me think of the days of mavericks the little guy AMD standing up for the average guy you and me. My second computer and the first I built was a 900 mhz AMD it had 32 megs of ram a 4gig hard drive on board graphics and man it really flew. Then Intel stepped in and spun a tale and caused a lot of us loyal AMD guys to loose our way. Coming home to AMD never felt so right. Love my 720 just wish it could have had all the cores running. I have finally found my way home. AMD A3 Phenom II X3 720 Black Edition AMD ATI 3870 x2 video card Asus M4A79T Deluxe mother board 4 gigs OCZ 1600 ddr3 need a triple data rate bios fix boys to get a little more out of this."

For everything from e-mail to gaming. I also rip a lot of CD's and DVD's for my iPod. As well as watch movies online, etc.
"I have used AMD since the K5's and I have never been disappointed. Once again, I wasn't ready to jump to Quad-core, but I wanted to be a little "future proofed" So viola, enter the X3. Much less than the Intel Quad Cores and always fast and reliable. The Cool N' Quiet drivers and power monitor are a must have. They keep you from burning up you processor when it is just idling."

"hi there amd fans out there.
this is a great mid level cpu for someone who wants performance on a budget. i really wanted to get a phenom 9950 quad core but it wasnt in my budget. i think it should have been a bit cheaper but thems the breaks.
the cpu i could afford at the time was the phenom x3 8650 which is 2.3 ghz x3 cores and plenty of cache for the highend games that i love to play so much,and the music ,movies that also rock with no stutter or freezeup..
ive beaten fallout3,crysis warhead and the first crysis,stalker shadow of chernobyl and stalker clear sky as well as many more that im still playing like farcry 2,unreal 3,call of duty 2,4 and world at war and a pile of others.
so for anyone who needs a fast but affordable cpu that would decimate a dual core intel or the old athlon x2 cpu's then pick up a tri-core and game away.
this cpu replaced my beloved amd athlon 64/5000 black edition that i ran at 3.2 ghz x 2 with an unlocked 16x multiplier.
you wont regret it."
