Hot, poor and bad battery life, DO NOT GET
Date: August 21, 2009
Pros: cheap Cons: Not Fast Enough, Too Basic, Runs Hot, seems cheaply made, not energy efficient
Product Use
Basic computing, some gaming and graphics programs. It has been like this since I bought it.
"It gets extremely hot, even with the most mundane tasks. One would expect a dual core to be able to handle compressing a file, surfing the net and listening to music at the same time... Apparently not... I'm surfing the web and compressing 2 files.. the two cores are sitting at about 75 degrees Celsius (167 farenheit). The worst part is that there is a large 15" fan blowing cool are on it and ice packs beneath it (not covering the vents). The laptop routinely shuts off due to overheating and will not turn on for about 5 minutes until it cools down."

Great Value, Love AMD!!!!!
Date: July 20, 2009
Pros: Fast, Good Value, High Quality, Many Features, Energy Efficient Cons: Runs Hot
"I have been dealing with Amd chips for a lond time. I belive in there products to be the best on the market. As far as Intel is concerend. Over priced!! Amd may have been the underdog, but throughout the years. Amd has still been a great Value with new and "BETTER" products out all the time! I got this laptop ( Acer Extensa 4520 ) AMD TL-58 1.90 GHz, in March 2008.It's been with me in Afghanistan since that time, and still running great. Always runs any program with no problems. It does run a little hot at times, but I will never use Intel chips. Keep up the good work AMD!!!!! HP is on there way to a happy future."

"Honestly, I had qualms going with AMD. Not because of experience; just because intel is usually considered better. I now see that this is not necessarily true. I own 3 laptops, all bought within the past year, two with intel dual core, and this one, which has become my primary because of its performance, the AMD Turion. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly I can perform tasks in PS CS4, lightroom 2, and run many, many prgrams with little or no problems. The ATI graphics performs fantastically and I feel the reviews on this laptop are far off on the performance. Neither of my intel systems process functions in Photoshop as quickly as this system. I am satisfied far beyond my expectations and am glad to have gone out on a limb to try AMD."

"I bought one laptop from Compaq with 2 GHz Turion X2 and a desktop with Intel 2.8 Ghz. Heres the best part, the Laptop wins any race with the desktop funny to note. I found that the Processor had better abilities to identify and prioritize. I use extreme graphics and 4 GB of memory on both my systems."

AMD and HP...Beware!
Date: January 27, 2009
Cons: Part Failure, Runs Hot
"I bought an AMD enabled laptop from HP in Fall 2007, thinking that I want to be one of the people who want to move away from Intel and give others a chance.
I am so disappointed with AMD as well as HP. Within one year of purchase my heat sink malfunctioned and had to be replaced. After about 6 months of that debacle, my motherboard is dying because apparently this is a problem with all AMD enabled laptops sold by HP within model Dv2000 upwards series.
If AMD is licensing its product it should ensure that the product is up to the quality expected from it.
I will never buy an AMD or HP product and will dissuade others from doing so.

I use it to download movies, music, play games. Terrific performer in the shape of AMD Turion 64 X2
"I have purchased my laptop, early last year. I must say, from what I heard about AMD Processors, I treated my laptop with great care. Once, I saw for myself. I feel the reviews about the processor and AMD as a company are nowhere near what the actual product is. My machine has nVida graphics, HDMI port, 3 USB ports, Lightscribe. I would have to say except for the speakers going out, the machine is a pleasure to use. I leave it on the whole night. I treat it as I treat my Athlon Xp Desktop, and so far I have no regrets about it. I would happily recommend it to anyone."

I have been a buyer of AMD for years and will continue to be! Keep making the best processors and top line graphics and I will continue to be a huge fan! THANKS AMD"

I like to experiment with office to make slide shows and experiment with office2007 Wish it wasn't an Acer product though.
"This is an Acer around this awsome processor and AMD cannot help that! Acer doesnt seem to care about their customers after the one year warranty wether you have the same problem you had them repair or not. So I wont be buying an Acer the next time! Although AMD is tops over Intel and the others! ATI & AMD make a great pair!"

Good processor
Date: December 20, 2008
Pros: Good Value, Energy Efficient Cons: Not Fast Enough

It is a notebook processor--email, web, occassional movie watching on the go.
"I purchased the processor from an online merchant--X2 64 @ 1.6 GHz. It was an open box marked down more than half off. The computer I purchased it for had a Turion 64 @ 2 GHz. I stepped down in processor speed, but added a core. For the most part, I feel, I broke even. However, in some aspects, the single core chip seemed to kick this one's butt."
